This location requires moderate route exploration. The area this photo was taken from is marked on the downloadable map. Select the green “View Map” tab to view this location on Google maps. Enter your starting point for detailed driving directions. The only way to get to this location is by canoe or kayak. 9 miles of paddling there and 9 miles of paddling back. The boat dock does rent canoes/kayaks and there is a backcountry campground just before the island. So this makes for a great overnight location. There is a scenic cruise that runs during the day but only does a drive by of the island. Also available are guided day and overnight tours in which all camping gear, meals and transportation are provided by season guides The easiest way to get to Spirit Island is by Kayak/Canoe. The Maligne Lake BoatHouse rents canoes for $75/day - $25/hour and two person kayaks for $90/day - $30/hour. It takes about 2.5 hours there and 3 hours back. The trip can be done in a day but I recommended reserving a campsite at Fisherman’s Bay Campground. Which is just before the island and needs to be booked well in advance. Maligne Lake is 48km from Jasper, take 16 North (Maybe 8-10km) and make a right onto Maligne Road continue on this road until reach Maligne Lake.
